Výcvik nových posádek a zejména pilotů byl nejnáročnější co do náplně. Bylo třeba zvládat mnoho dovedností a létání jako takové bylo už (alespoň pro ty zkušené) jakousi třešinkou na dortu.

Nácviky nouzových přistání na vodě patřily mezi ty nejméně oblíbené. To, jak i tohle školení dokázalo v případě nouze zachránit život (i za cenu zajetí, pokud se dotyčný nacházel v nepřátelských vodách), by jistě dokonale popsal gen. Alois Šiška. Ten si to v moři i za bouře po sestřelení s celou posádkou „užíval“ týden (viz jeho kniha KX-B neodpovídá).
Nácviky nouzových přistání na vodě patřily mezi ty nejméně oblíbené. To, jak i tohle školení dokázalo v případě nouze zachránit život (i za cenu zajetí, pokud se dotyčný nacházel v nepřátelských vodách), by jistě dokonale popsal gen. Alois Šiška. Irvingova posádka před wellingtonem na základně East Wretham nedlouho poté, co se šťastně vrátili ze základny v Granthamu, kde museli 8. 5. 1942 nouzově přistát. Však je úleva na všech dobře vidět. Zleva: Al. Novák (př. stř.), Jiří Böhm (zadní stř.), Jan Irving (kapitán a velitel pos.), Frant. Švejdar (RTG), Jos. Stach (2. pilot), Jos. Němeček (nav.).
