Toto místo má nesmírnou, až mystickou sílu. Kdo tu jednou stál, měl permanentní mrazení v zádech. Přesná trasa tunelu je nad místem jeho vykopání, kde stál původní barák č. 104, pietně lemována žulovými deskami s nápisy těch, kteří se touto podzemní cestou snažili dostat na svobodu. Šířka tunelu je skutečná, takže „hromotluci“ typu Vildy Bufky či Zdeňka Škarvady se o útěk pokusit ani nesnažili. O to více ale pomáhali svým kamarádům na zemi.

This place has immense, almost mystical power. Who has ever stood here, got permanent goosebumps on their back. The exact route of the tunnel is marked above on the ground where the barrack no. 104 stood. The granite blocks are inscribed with names of those who tried to escape to freedom. The width of the tunnel is exactly copied so the big guys, such as Vilda Bufek or Zdeněk Škavrada, did not even try to escape. The more they helped their friends on the surface.

Zde je detail jedné ze zde umístěných desek, na níž jsou i jména našich letců. Ta modrá znamenají, že dotyční přežili. Ivo Tonder navíc patřil mezi tři šťastlivce, kteří se dobrodružnou cestou dostali zpět do Anglie a vrátili se k létání. B. Dvořák takové štěstí neměl, ale přežil. Na útěku byl dopaden na našem území kdesi u Klatov a opětovně deportován zpět do saganského tábora. Jako „dezertér z Protektorátu“ měl tedy z pekla štěstí! Na takové vojenské osoby se totiž podle německých předpisů nevztahovaly úmluvy Ženevské konvence.

Here we see one of the memorial plaques with a list which includes the Czechoslovak airmen. Those who survived are written in blue. Ivo Tonder was one of the three lucky ones who went through an adventurous journey back to Britain and resumed flying. B. Dvořák was not so lucky but he survived. He was caught in the Protectorate, somewhere near Klatovy, and then deported back to the Sagan camp. As a "deserter from Protectorate, he had helluva luck. According to German laws, such army staff was not protected under the Geneva Conventions.

Záběr na hlavní pomník u výstupu z tunelu Harry před lesem, který tzv. „kryl“ při útěku letcům záda. Zde se vždy odehrávají velmi emotivní a dech beroucí pietní akty za účasti přímých účastníků, jejich rodinných příslušníků z celého světa a stejně tak zastupujících vojenských atašé té které země. Snad už jen oslavy v Normandii dokážou na jedno místo dostat tak pestrou škálu vojenských přidělenců a jejich počty předčit.

The main memorial at the exit of the Harry Tunnel at the edge of a wood which covered the airmen when they escaped. This is where very emotional and breathtaking memorial ceremonies take place, with the participants of the original events and their family members, as well as military attachés from various countries. It is probably only the celebrations in Normandy which is able to attract so many different diplomatic staff and in greater numbers.

V hlavním záběru Iveta Irvingová z části české delegace po zajatých letcích. Tato skupinka reprezentovala pozůstalé rodinné příslušníky (jiná sestávala z vojenských atašé ČR a SR či velvyslanců, čs. historiků, členů KVH-RAF aj.).

Iveta Irvingová and a part of the Czech delegation, a group which represented family members of deceased airmen. There were other groups with military attachés from Czech Republic and Slovakia, ambassadors, historians, members of the clubs of military history and others.

Josefa Brykse – drsného hocha s citlivou duší a notorického útěkáře z různých zajetí, jemuž zdraví po válce zničil komunistický režim v jáchymovských dolech, ale srdce mu puklo žalem až poté, co mu tam zakázali písemný kontakt s jeho milovanou anglickou manželkou). Iveta Irvingová (za V. Bufku) a Václav Toman (předseda Let. historického klubu genmjr. Jana R. Irvinga v Plzni). Ten se účasti u pomníku ujal poté, co to pro silný déšť a velmi chladné počasí Ivanka Škarvadová s poděkováním odmítla a zůstala ve VIP stanu.

Memorial ceremony in Sagan. From the left, Karel Bryks, representing colonel Josef Briks, a tough boy with a sensitive soul who would escape from many a war prison camp, whose health was ruined by the Communist regime and forced labour in the Jáchymov uranium mines. WHat was the last straw that broke his heart was a ban on corresponding with his beloved English wife. Iveta Irvingová is representing V. Bufka and Václav Toman, the head of the Jan R. Irving Airforce History Club in Plzeň. He chose to join the party when Ivanka Škarvadová politely chose not to go to the strong rain and cold weather and remained in the VIP tent.

Na okraji městečka Žagaň (Sagan) je zdejší vojenský hřbitov s několika sekcemi včetně těch, které se věnují padlým v první světové válce a vojákům různých národností, kteří zahynuli v tomto období.

On the outskirts of a small Polish town of Żagań (Sagan), there is a military cemetery divided into several sections, such as one dedicated to the fallen in the WWI and soldiers of all nations who died during those times.

Sagan - delegaci složenou z členů doslova z celé České republiky po celkové prohlídce hřbitova ovšem zajímalo hlavně toto místo s náhrobky a uloženými ostatky padesáti zastřelených letců, kde všechny nejvíce bral za srdce samozřejmě Arnie, tedy Sgt. Arnošt Valenta z 311. čs. bombardovací perutě. (Ivetě automaticky na tomto místě v silném dojetí vyvstala slova písně od skupiny Taxmeni „Špatný místo pro přistání“.)

Sagan - The delegation consisted of members from all over the Czech Republic. Their main interest was this place with gravestones and the remains of the fifty executed airmen. They were most touched by Arnie or sergeant Arnošt Valenta from the 311th Czechoslovak squadron. (Iveta was deeply moved and reminded of the lyrics of a Taxmen song, 'Bad place to land'.)

Sagan - po zapálení svíček za každého člena delegace a položení kytice se pořídila tato pamětní fotografie. Zleva se shromáždili pozůstalí po vězněných letcích – Iveta Irvingová, Josef Bryks a Mgr. Ivana Škarvadová. Na snímku vpravo stojí zleva historik a odborník na saganské události i táborový systém, rovněž jsou jeho doménou i československé paraskupiny působící ve východní části ČR – Vladislav Severin. Vedle něho (uprostřed) stojí pplk. Ing. Jan Čelechovský – bývalý vojenský pilot, jinak jeden z řidičů delegace, a vpravo synovec hned po dvou letcích sloužících u RAF (Víta Angettera a Albína Naswettera), Radovan Stýblo. Ostatní s pokornou úctou postávali stranou.

Next to him (middle of the photograph), standing, lieutenant colonel Ing. Jan Čelechovský, a former army pilot and one of the designated drivers of the group and next to him to the right, nephew of two RAF airmen (Vít Angetter and Albín Naswetter), Radovan Stýblo. The others humbly stood aside.
